Some women have additional breast tissue in the armpit, along the line where breasts develop in the embryo. It can cause a visible bulge, discomfort and swelling during the menstrual cycle — and can be removed with discreet scars.

Why accessory breast tissue develops
Before birth, breast tissue forms along two "milk lines" running from the armpits to the groin. Normally only one breast develops on each side, but small amounts of breast tissue can remain elsewhere on the line — most often in the armpit. It may become noticeable during puberty, pregnancy or weight gain.

Symptoms
A soft bulge in front of or inside the armpit
Tenderness or swelling before menstruation or during pregnancy
Friction and discomfort with sleeveless clothes or a bra
An ultrasound confirms that the swelling is breast tissue and checks it in the same way as the breast itself.

Every plan begins with an unhurried conversation about your history and goals.
How it is removed
Mainly fatty tissue can be removed with liposuction through a small opening. Firm glandular tissue and excess skin are removed through an incision placed in the natural crease of the armpit, so the scar is well hidden. Often both techniques are combined.

Recovery
The procedure usually takes about an hour and is a day case. Arm movement is gently limited for one to two weeks to protect the scar, and a compression garment may be worn.

Recovery continues calmly — with clear guidance before you travel home.

Frequently asked questions
Is accessory breast tissue dangerous?
It is usually harmless, but it can develop the same conditions as normal breast tissue, so it is included in breast check-ups.
Can it be treated at the same time as other breast surgery?
Yes. It is often combined with breast reduction, lift or augmentation.
